SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) has strict connections with other modules and one of these modules is SAP Production Planning (SAP PP). The information of scheduled production should update EWM consistently and continually. Production material request (PMR) document is a linkage between production planning and extended warehouse management in its most basic definition. To proceed with the production efficiently, the PMR document plays a crucial role.
Production order is created by production planning. With the approval of the production order, the PMR document is formed on the SAP EWM side. This document consists of the information that which products are produced, which products are consumed, the amount of these produced and consumed products and the other necessary information related to these products. The necessary components stated in a PMR document can be transferred with the staging process to the storage bins for consumption with four staging methods. These methods are:
The components needed in the production can be moved from storage bins to production supply areas (PSA) specific to each production order. Here, the key point is that the warehouse task is created separately for each production order.
In cross-order staging, there is not any linkage between the components in the PSAs and specific production orders. Hundreds of warehouse tasks can be released with only one click for hundreds of components. These components are not related to one specific warehouse order. That means these can be used for different production orders which are active in that time.
The system takes into accounts while creating warehouse tasks that:
The items do not consider items of a PMR with any kind of staging. This setting can be consumed for products that are used directly from a storage place.
When a component is needed in the production supply area all the time, create part replenishment can be used. With this method, each time the amount of component decreases under a minimum product quantity, it can be automatically replenished with the “replenishment quantity”.
The components in the PMR can be consumed with or without staging. In other words, the components can be consumed either in their addresses or in PSAs. Advanced production integration (API) allows you to plan the staging of the components. Besides, using the space on PSAs can be a key point in the production and with advanced production integration, it can be operated productively to raise efficiency. After planning the staging processes, the staging indicators should be assigned based on the decision of whether the staging occurs in EWM or not.
The consumption of the components in the PSAs can be approved on both the PP side and EWM side and the PP and EWM can update each other. Based on these documents in EWM, the components’ goods issue which is in the consumption is completed.
After manufacturing is completed, the goods receipt process can be approved on both the PP side and EWM side and they also update each other. With this linkage between PP and EWM, the materials can be tracked more accurately. It helps us to optimize our productions based on time and cost.
Contact our SAP EWM team if you want to use your materials more efficiently and follow them much more smoothly while making your production.
