The UN/LOCODE identifier is the United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations code used to uniquely identify locations that are used for trade and transportation such as ports, rail and road terminals, airports, postal exchanges and border crossings. It consists of five characters, the leading two characters consisting of a country code as defined in ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and the remaining three characters uniquely identifying a location within the country.
UN/LOCODE currently includes more than 103,034 locations in 249 countries and territories. It is used worldwide by many major shipping companies, by freight forwarders and in the manufacturing industry.
The list of UN/CODES and locations may be found at: https://unece.org/trade/cefact/unlocode-code-list-country-and-territory
In customizing for Transportation Management, go to Master Data→ Transportation Network → Location→ Define UN/LOCODE
In customizing for Transportation Management, go to Master Data→ Transportation Network → Location→ Configuration for Alternative Location Identifiers
Create a location using transaction: /SAPAPO/LOC3
Having UN/LOCODE as an attribute allows you to have multiple locations using the same code. For example in your scenario you have an airport location, but also a gateway for it, and want to search by UN/LOCODE code and find both, you have to add it as an attribute.
*In case you only have the airport and no other location, it should be added as alternative identifier.
