How To Become an SAP ABAP Consultant

If you are interested in software and programming and aim for a career in this field, becoming an SAP ABAP developer & SAP ABAP consultant can be a good career goal. Like all other software areas, if you want to be an ABAP consultant, you should basically understand the logic and philosophy of the ABAP programming language and then find an opportunity to gain experience.
  1. Get a Degree: The first step to becoming an SAP ABAP Consultant is to get a degree in one of the following disciplines: computer science, information technology, business, engineering, etc. It is important to have a strong educational background to be successful in the field of SAP ABAP consulting. These university majors develop students in ERP, algorithms and many other software frameworks.
  2. Get SAP Certified: SAP has many certified training programs. Candidates must pass the SAP Certification Exam after the training to become an SAP ABAP Consultant. This exam tests candidates' knowledge of ABAP and SAP technologies. It is a good idea to take some courses or attend a boot camp to make sure you are prepared for the exam. There are many platforms such as YouTube, Udemy, etc. that offer free and paid training videos where you can improve yourself.
  3. Gain Experience: After having a beginner level of knowledge in ABAP programming language, candidates need to take part in a project to gain experience. If you are a student or recent graduate, you can search for internship and career opportunities at companies. You can start your SAP ABAP career as an intern and move your SAP ABAP consultancy career forward as you gain experience.
  4. Join Professional Organizations: There are various communities that can help you network and stay up-to-date on the latest technology and trends. You can improve your know-how with quality resources shared in this community and create networking opportunities by meeting professionals working in this industry.
  5. Attend Events: SAP, companies using SAP and SAP consulting firms organize many offline and online events. By attending these events, you can learn more about the industry and the language of the program.
  6. Keep Learning: To stay up-to-date with the latest developments in ABAP technology, it is important to keep learning. This can be done by taking courses, reading books and attending seminars.
