The Fiori Launchpad Designer, is a crucial configuration tool within the SAP Fiori system for managing catalogs, groups, and tiles, offers administrators a user-friendly interface for organizing apps on the Fiori Launchpad. Designed for desktop use, supporting various browsers, it plays a key role in the transportation of configurations across systems. However, it’s important to recognize that this information is relevant for versions prior to SAP S/4HANA 2020. With the advent of SAP S/4HANA 2020 and beyond, the Fiori Launchpad Designer has been replaced by the Launchpad Content Manager, Launchpad App Manager, and the Manage Launchpad Spaces/Pages apps.
In this guide, we'll delve into the process of creating semantic objects, catalogs, groups, and tiles, helping you get the most out of your Fiori Launchpad.
Semantic Object is a key element used to define and categorize the business context of applications, enabling the mapping of navigation targets in the Fiori Launchpad. To create a new Semantic Object, use the T-Code: /UI2/SEMOBJ in your SAP system. This ensures that each UI5 application is uniquely assigned to a Semantic Object. Click on "Edit" and then "Add a New Entry" to define your Semantic Object. Enter a unique semantic object identifier, along with a semantic object name and description. Once you've filled in the details, save your changes into a transport request to maintain consistency and enable transport across systems. This process ensures clear and unique identification for UI5 applications within your SAP environment.
Business catalog is a collection of tiles or applications that are made available for a specific role. It defines the set of apps that users with that role can access and display on their SAP Fiori launchpadTo create a new catalog in your Fiori Launchpad Designer, start by navigating to your Fiori Launchpad and accessing the Launchpad Designer. Once there, select the "Catalogs" tab to manage your catalogs. Click on the "Create Catalog" button to initiate the creation of a new catalog. Enter a unique title and ID for the catalog, ensuring the ID is unique within your SAP environment. Optionally, provide a description to make the catalog's purpose clearer. Finally, click the "Save" button to save the new catalog with the entered details.
Target mapping is the process of linking a navigation target, such as an application or URL, to a combination of semantic object and action, enabling seamless navigation within the Fiori Launchpad. To create a new target mapping, select the option to "Create Target Mapping." This will open a configuration page where you will define the details of the mapping.
To configure the target mapping in SAP Fiori, follow these steps:
Semantic Object: Enter the semantic object that you’ve already created.
Action: Choose an action according to your requirements.
Application Type: Select SAPUI5 Fiori App.
Title: Choose a title for your application.
URL: Enter the ICF Base URL of the SAPUI5 application, which should look like sap/bc/bsp/applicationname. Note that the URL is server-relative, and you can obtain it by using T-code SICF. Ensure that it points to an SAP Fiori app.
ID: Enter your deployed application ID, which can be found in the manifest.json file, component.js, or controller.js.
Tiles are interactive elements on the Fiori Launchpad that represent applications, providing users with quick access to business functions and displaying real-time data. Choose the 'Tiles' icon from the navigation pane. This will take you to the tiles management area. To add a new tile, click on the ‘Plus’ icon, typically located at the bottom of the left-hand side pane, then select the App Launcher – Static section.
Next, configure the following parameters for your tile:
Title: Enter a title that will appear on the tile.
Tile Subtitle: Enter a subtitle to be displayed on the tile.
Tile Information: Provide additional information that will appear at the bottom of the tile.
Tile Keywords: Tag the tile with keywords to make it easier for users to find using the search function in the tile catalog. Use spaces or commas to separate multiple keywords.
Tile Icon: Select an icon using the value help. After choosing an icon, the system inserts a URL starting with the sap-icon:// protocol. These icons are derived from SAPUI5 icon fonts. For more information, refer to Icon and Icon Pool.
Semantic Object: Add the semantic object you created earlier.
In SAP Fiori, tiles and target mapping are connected through Semantic Object + Actions, while the path to SAP UI5 applications is managed via Launchpad Roles within the target mapping setup
A Business Group in Fiori is a collection of related tiles that helps organize and control user access to specific applications within the SAP Fiori Launchpad. To create a new group in the Fiori Launchpad Designer, navigate to the "Groups" tab and click the "Create Group" button. Enter a title for the group, which will be displayed on the Fiori Launchpad homepage, and provide a unique Technical ID for the group within your SAP environment. Optionally, you can add a description to clarify the group's purpose. Finally, click the "Save" button to create the new group.
After creating the new group in the Fiori Launchpad Designer, add it to an existing Business Catalog. This allows you to manage the group more effectively. Navigate to your Business Catalog and include the newly created group. Then, add the desired tiles to this group. A single Business Group can contain one or multiple tiles sourced from the same or different Catalogs. This setup provides flexibility and control over app and tile accessibility for users in the SAP Fiori Launchpad, enabling you to tailor the user experience and permissions based on the specific needs and roles within your organization.
The last step in configuring your Fiori Launchpad is creating a PFCG Role on the SAP Fiori Server (Front-end). Access transaction code PFCG, provide a name for your role without spaces or special characters, and select "Single Role" to proceed
Next, navigate to the "Menu" tab. From the "Insert Node" drop-down list, select "SAP Fiori Tile Catalog." Choose the catalog and click "OK." Finally, assign your Business Catalog and Group to the role, completing the configuration.
After creating the role and configuring the menu, navigate to the "User" tab within the role. Here, you can add user IDs to assign the role to specific users. This ensures that the users will have access to the assigned Business Catalog and Group in the SAP Fiori Launchpad, completing the setup and enabling them to access the configured tiles and applications.
By following these detailed steps, you have successfully integrated your UI5 application into the SAP Fiori Launchpad. This integration enables users to access and interact with your application seamlessly.
